Beta release of Windows 7 gets going

This past Friday - January 12, 2009- Microsoft (MSFT) released the beta version of its next operating system. Originally, the company had placed an upper limit of 2.5 million downloads of the new system. However, after a few false starts with the release, including overloaded servers, the company decided to remove the cap, allowing unlimited downloads through January 24, 2009.

It's likely that the beta will still be available for download after the download period expires, as has often the case in the past.
